Marqués de Riscal Reserva is one of the most famous wines in Spain because of its long history and consistent high quality. Riscal Reservas spend around two years in American Oak Barrels to produce the classic Rioja style: fresh, fine, elegant, and very suitable for laying down for many years. The wine spends a minimum of one year rounding off in the bottle to build upon the tempranillo's complexity. The wine has an intense depth and black-cherry colour as well as expressive aromas with notes of licorice, cinnamon, and black pepper, with just a subtle hint of the long cask-aging, thanks to its great complexity and ripe, concentrated fruit. Fresh and easy to drink on the palate, good backbone and lovely, polished tannins followed by a long, persistent finish. Food pairings include ham, mild cheeses, casseroles with mild spices, New York strip steak, and grilled meats.
